How Long Does It Take To Get My License
- The application/renewal process takes approximately 90 days (about 12 weeks).
Why? The Chief of Police has 10 working days (2 weeks) and the Sheriff has 30 days to process the application . Then the application is submitted to BCI. Generally, it takes 45 days from the date we receive the properly completed application from local law enforcement. If there is a problem with your application, either it will be returned to you to correct the problem or you will receive notification that the application was invalid. The 45 days for BCI does not begin until after we have received the corrected form. - If it has been more than 90 days since a satisfactorily completed application was submitted to BCI, you can send written notification to the BCI (via regular mail) that you have not received the license. For security reasons, BCI cannot accept telephone or e-mail notifications. Sorry, we cannot respond to these notifications.
- The BCI receives between 100 and 300 applications every day for processing.
